Sir Richard Branson’s Franschhoek bolthole, beautiful Mont Rochelle is a Cape Dutch-style boutique hotel and vineyard with glorious views of the Franschhoek mountains and valley.
This charming boutique hotel is set in delightful grounds with remarkable views of the surrounding Franschhoek countryside and vineyards. Mont Rochelle really is the perfect place for an intimate, relaxing country stay, and it’s a wonderful base from which to explore Franschhoek, the food and wine capital of South Africa. The hotel is just a 45-minute drive from Cape Town International Airport and within 35 minutes’ of the Stellenbosch, Paarl and Somerset West wine routes.
Surrounded by an extensive garden that includes rolling lawns, a herb garden, sparkling swimming pool and tennis courts, Mont Rochelle has just 26 elegant bedroom suites as well as the exclusive-use Manor House, the hotel’s latest addition.
This luxury villa is just a short walk from the main hotel and is an excellent option for a family group or guests looking for a more private retreat; it can accommodate up to eight guests sharing, plus up to six children in the bunkroom. The Manor House facilities include two pools and a gym, and four beautifully appointed bedroom suites plus a cosy children’s bunkroom (the minibar here is stocked with age-appropriate snacks and drinks for kids). Children’s games plus a TV, DVD player and games console ensure children are thoroughly entertained during your stay.
The hotel’s four Shiraz rooms have king-size beds and courtyard or valley views, while the six larger Merlot rooms also boast king-size beds and valley views. In the Vineyard wing you’ll find six Cabernet rooms, each with a private terrace overlooking the valley. The four spacious Pinotage suites each have a separate lounge and sublime views. The hotel’s two largest suites are the Cap Classique suites in the Vineyard Wing, each of which features a separate lounge area, a private terrace and its own plunge pool.
Breakfast is served in the main restaurant, Miko. One of two restaurants at Mont Rochelle, Miko also serves delicious gourmet meals. The Country Kitchen, adjoining the wine cellar, is perfect for light lunches or relaxed dinners. Of course, the village of Franschhoek is the foodie hot spot in South Africa, so you have an excellent selection of the country’s finest restaurants to choose from if you want a change of scene, while wine tasting at the excellent wine farms in the region is a must!
