A tribute to timeless glamour and contemporary luxury, The Silo Hotel towers above the V&A Waterfront to offer incredible outlooks over the surrounding natural wonders of Cape Town. Designed by London starchitect Thomas Heatherwick, The Silo has been built in the grain elevator portion of the historic grain silo complex occupying six floors above the Zeitz MOCAA (Museum of Contemporary Art Africa), Africa’s largest collection of contemporary African art.
The lobby sets the scene for the contrast between old and new showcased throughout The Silo Hotel. Suspended from the double-volume ceiling hangs Haldane Martin’s contemporary chandelier, juxtaposed against the original grain hoppers. The 28 individually designed and gloriously stylish rooms, including a spectacular one-bedroom penthouse, are all furnished with colourful and eclectic one-off handcrafted pieces that add an electric appeal to the contemporary industrial architecture. A standout feature is owner Liz Biden’s meticulously selected art collection by some of Africa’s most talented contemporary artists. Their work has been specifically chosen to complement the unique interiors of each of the 28 rooms, offering individualised experiences for guests.
Astounding views are central to a stay at The Silo – choose from six room categories based on the room size and the views, however the vast one-bedroom penthouse is undoubtedly the jewel in The Silo’s crown. It is located on the top floor facing Table Mountain and has spectacular triple-aspect views of Cape Town as well as a large balcony. No matter which room category you choose, you’ll find yourself coddled in the lap of luxury.
If you can tear yourself away from your luxurious suite, you’ll love the wide range of dining experiences on offer in The Silo. Relax at the end of the day in The Willaston Bar and enjoy a selection of bar snacks. The Granary Café offers a more formal dining experience, while The Silo Rooftop, with its astonishing views, is the ideal spot for a sunset cocktail or a casual lunch. Casual and contemporary menus feature good, honest and approachable food that showcases seasonal local ingredients for meals including lunch, afternoon tea, dinner, bar snacks and a wonderful Sunday Roast.
As well as the fine art in your suite, you can explore The Vault – this is the Silo Hotel’s small and exclusive art gallery. Relax beside the sparkling rooftop swimming pool, head out to explore Cape Town’s many charms or pamper yourself at the excellent Silo Spa. This tranquil space offers the latest therapies and spa techniques as well as a gym, sauna and a dedicated manicure and pedicure area.
