A strong conservation ethos and focus on providing guests with highly experienced, passionate guides that facilitate a deeper connection to the wilds mean that Ongava luxury ecolodge offers the very best African-style retreat. Bordering on the southern edge of the world-renown Etosha National Park , Ongava Lodge sits on a rocky ridge in the Ongava Private Game Reserve in northern Namibia. From here it enjoys a beautiful vantage point over the plains and above a waterhole that attracts a wide variety of wildlife.
Thirteen chalets and one family room, attractively built and incorporating local materials such as thatch, have en-suite bathrooms, air conditioning and glass-fronted doors leading onto a private veranda overlooking the Ongava bush. From the communal lounge, bar and dining areas, guests can observe black and white rhino, lion and elephants as well as a host of other wildlife.
Close encounters with the black and white rhino are the hallmark experience of this camp. Ongava holds one of the largest rhino custodianships in Namibia and is one of the few private game reserves in southern Africa where guests can see both black and white rhino. Skilled professional guides with specialised safety training will take you tracking through the bush in search of rhino – an activity that very few people in the world will ever experience and one that is often life-changing.
Walks with a naturalist guide are also on offer; get up close and personal with an array of fascinating flora and some of the unseen but often more exciting smaller inhabitants of the Ongava bushveld.
For an exclusive experience, enjoy game drives in open 4 x4s with picnics exploring both the private Ongava Reserve as well as Etosha National Park, Namibia’s premier wildlife destination.
At night, around a campfire under the stars, the day’s adventures will be told – whether you sat quietly on the deck watching a family of hyena come to the waterhole or crouched metres from a black rhino – and the true magic of Africa will wrap around you.
