Elegant and stately Giraffe Manor transports you right back to the heyday of safari travel. Now an exclusive boutique hotel set in 12 acres of private land within 140 acres of indigenous forest in the Langata suburb of Nairobi, Giraffe Manor was originally built in 1932 and still has extraordinary appeal. With its stately facade, elegant interiors, verdant gardens, sunny terraces and delightful courtyards, Giraffe Manor is a luxurious, comfortable retreat.
However, the most fascinating thing about it is the herd of resident Rothschild giraffe that roam freely around the grounds and may even pop their heads in the dining-room windows to steal treats from your breakfast table. This small hotel – with its associated AFEW Giraffe Centre – operates a breeding programme that successfully reintroduces breeding pairs back into the wild to counter the subspecies’ decline in the wild. Giraffe from this African Fund for Endangered Wildlife centre have since been released into Nakuru, Ruma and Soysambu preserves.
Each of the hotel’s 12 rooms has its own distinct personality, elegant furnishings and art deco features. The Karen Blixen suite has wheelchair access. Guests enjoy full board during their stay, which includes all meals and most drinks. After a stint in the African bush, guests enjoy the hotel’s WiFi access and the luxury of an on-site massage therapist. Complimentary chauffeured vehicles are available for sightseeing, although you may need to share vehicles depending on demand and availability. Giraffe Manor also offers other activities, from a guided forest walk through the sanctuary (where you may encounter warthog and antelope) to feeding baby elephants at the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust. Giraffe Manor offers guided walks through the sanctuary, where you may encounter warthogs, antelopes, birds, and other creatures.
