Owned by local Masai, the Naboisho Conservancy adjacent to the northern Masai Mara Reserve is simultaneously exclusive, in its restriction on tourist numbers and their impact on the environment, and inclusive. ‘Naboisho’ means ‘coming together’ in Maa and this is borne out in the coming together of tourists and community, game animals and livestock.
The conservancy was the overall winner, and winner of the Best Conservancy award at the 2016 African Responsible Tourism Awards for its governance, protection of wildlife and the direct benefits for the community created by the local people’s ownership and active involvement in its management. Naboisho pioneered holistic rangeland management, which promotes co-existence between wildlife and the Masai landowners’ livestock, with controlled livestock grazing and a strict code of conduct for game drives and other tourism activities.
As a result, visitors partake in an outstanding African wilderness experience, with high concentrations of game like elephants, antelopes and big cats, excellent bird viewing (including several species seldom seen in the reserve), personal space and greater freedom to enjoy activities tailor-made to suit them.
Award-winning Naboisho Camp is perfectly located in the heart of the conservancy. The exclusive camp offers personalized service and delectable food. Its two family tents and nine tented suites are a blend of romantic traditional and fresh, modern safari style.
