Overlooking Namibia’s gorgeous Mudumu National Park on the opposite bank of the Kwando River, this heavily forested site is home to a wide range of birds and mammals. Lagoon Camp’s eight traditionally styled tents are carefully designed to make the most of this proximity to Africa’s wildest inhabitants.
Each tent’s private deck, living area and bathroom affords beautiful views over the river; in fact, you won’t even have to leave the comfort of your bed to enjoy these views of the river and the hippos and elephant that thrive here. En-suite bathrooms have an indoor and outdoor shower, as well as a bathtub for an enjoyable afternoon soak. The main camp areas are perfect for relaxing: choose from the bar and sitting area; outdoor deck with a swing; dining area; curio shop; orientation centre; and a welcoming library overlooking the river.
Seasonally large herds of elephant drink at the riverbank near to the camp in full view of the main deck, while playful spotted-necked otters are commonly seen performing in the water. Lagoon Camp has a well-earned reputation for big game and large herds of elephant and buffalo, especially in the winter months, when herds of up to a thousand are not uncommon. This vast concentration of game attracts the attention of large predators. The Lagoon wild dog pack regularly den close to the camp and the excellent viewing opportunities have led to Lagoon’s reputation as the place to see wild dog in Botswana.
Another special feature of the camp is the afternoon/evening river cruise on a double-deck boat. Drift along the river while enjoying spectacular views, viewing game and birds while sipping at your ‘sundowner’ of choice. If you enjoy fishing, throw a line in the water while the boat meanders along. Safari activities on offer also include walks (seasonal), game-viewing drives (off-road game drives and night drives are possible).
