Jack’s Camp in Botswana is to start offering game-viewing helicopter flights in 2018. From next year, a helicopter will be permanently based at the camp.
Jack’s Camp in Botswana is one of the most iconic and celebrated camps in all of Africa. Situated on the edge of a vast salt pan, the remnants of a prehistoric superlake, the camp’s otherworldly setting evokes the savage beauty of a long-forgotten Africa. The camp is an oasis of comfort and style in midst of the game-rich Kalahari. Jack’s Camp is all about surprises. First, there is the camp itself which consists of 10 luxurious and stylish old-world tents, complete with bhukara-muslin draped walls, Persian rugs and vintage lithographs, as well as a private museum, a swimming pool pavilion and a decadent tea tent.
If you’re feeling restless in camp, there are plenty of activities to get your heart racing. Get up-close-and-personal with a group of wild meerkats, spend time walking in the wild with a group of San Bushmen, head out on a game drive in search of desert-adapted species such as lion, cheetah, oryx, brown hyena and, during the green season (November through mid-May), Africa’s second largest zebra migration. And now you can add the extraordinary experience of an aerial game-viewing helicopter trip to your must-do list.
Uncharted Africa will offer a variety of scenic helicopter flips, ranging from a 20-minute scenic flight over the pans to a 90-minute flight to Kubu Island. During the wetter green season (November to March) you will be able to get an aerial view of one of Africa’s greatest animal migrations as the Makgadikgadi Salt Pans fill with zebra, springbok, oryx, red hartebeest and various predators that follow them. During the dry season you will fly over the lunaresque landscape of the salt pans. The helicopter can accommodate three guests at a time.
