Franschhoek Valley Wine Tram

By Ashworth Africa, March 20, 2010

Cape Winelands – Franschhoek tourism is set to get a major boost when its latest project, the Franschhoek Valley Wine Tram, is up and running. The tram will transport tourists along the wine route from the French Huguenot village of Franschhoek to Paarl, stopping at various restaurants and vineyards along the way.

A communication system will be fitted to each tram to let tourists enjoy an audio tour while taking in the scenery. There will be about 10 to 12 stops on the route with a tram passing each stop every hour, allowing tourists to hop on and off at their leisure. Two 1930s trams will be imported from Australia and it is hoped that the first one will start running later this year.
