Itinerary Highlights
- Wildlife viewing in Etosha National Park, one of Africa’s most intriguing wildlife sanctuaries
- Climb the world’s highest sand dunes at Sossusvlei in the Namib Desert
- Explore the remote and harshly beautiful Skeleton Coast
- Soak up a slice of German colonial history in the coastal town of Swakopmund
Straddling two immense deserts – the Namib along its south Atlantic coast and the Kalahari in the east – Namibia is a land of unique wildlife and fantastic, otherworldly scenery. A fast maturing safari destination with world class lodges, Namibia’s haunting landscapes harbour a great diversity of wildlife that has adapted to life in this harsh environment, such as the rare desert elephant.
Beginning in mile-high Windhoek, you then fly south to the Sossusvlei region, site of Namibia’s famous 1000-foot dunes, the highest on earth. After exploring the Namib desert’s scenery and ecology with a stay at sensational Sossusvlei Desert Lodge, you cool off in the coastal German colonial town of Swakopmund, a little slice of Bavaria transported to the south Atlantic. Continue by air to the remarkable Skeleton Coast National Park, a region the indigenous San people named “ the land God made in anger”. You spend your days here with a qualified guide watching out for desert-adapted wildlife while exploring the vast plains, towering canyons, salt pans, seal colonies and beaches strewn with whale bones and the remnants of wrecked ships.
You end at Ongava Game Reserve, one of the few private reserves in Africa where the chances are good of seeing both white and black rhino by vehicle and, carefully, on foot. Enjoy private 4-wheel-drive wildlife viewing safaris into the famed Etosha National Park, coming into peaceful contact with its elephant, antelope, zebra, wildebeest, giraffe, lion, and cheetah (and perhaps even elusive leopard), watching their daily activities in this ancient landscape.
