Itinerary Highlights
- Untouched beaches on a pristine, private island
- Quirimbas National Park with abundant bird and marine life
- World-class snorkelling and scuba diving among unspoilt coral reefs
- Balmy Indian Ocean waters
The Mozambique coast is an ideal beach destination, either as a romantic getaway or for a family vacation. It’s a relatively short flight from South Africa or Tanzania direct to the country’s unblemished beaches, warm Indian Ocean waters, and casually luxurious lodges. Whether your aim is to simply do nothing and unwind from the stresses of modern living or enjoy the many activities on offer, Mozambique’s coast and beaches offer something for everyone.
After arriving in the northern town of Pemba, you will fly by light aircraft over the Quirimbas Archipelago to Vamizi Island. The only lodge on the island, Vamizi Island Lodge defines “castaway chic” with thirteen impossibly romantic timber villas strung loosely along one of the world’s most beautiful beaches. Vamizi Island is surrounded by clear, bright turquoise and blue water, abundant with marine life and unbleached, untouched coral reefs. Explore this ecosystem kayaking or on a traditional dhow, or snorkelling or scuba diving – some the world’s best dives are found here. Landlubbers may of course prefer to wander the miles of sugar sand beaches, or delve into the bush for a spot of monkey- or bird-watching.
